Celebrate Juneteenth and Support Black Worker Empowerment at the AFRAM Mass Gala Fundraiser

The Coalition of Black Trade Unionists-Boston Chapter is excited to announce our participation in the upcoming SEIU AFRAM Mass Juneteenth Gala Fundraiser. This significant event will take place on Saturday, June 22, 2024, from 6 PM to 10 PM EDT, at the 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East Massachusetts in Quincy, MA. We gather not only to commemorate Juneteenth but also to contribute actively to the ongoing struggle for justice and the empowerment of Black workers.

Event Highlights:

  • Live Entertainment: The evening will feature a vibrant array of performances including dance, poetry, music, and more.

  • Buffet-Style Dinner: Guests will enjoy a wide selection of delicious dishes.

  • Engaging Discussions: The event will include panel discussions led by prominent community leaders and activists.

Special Guests and Speakers:

  • Keynote Speaker: Celia Johnston, President & CEO and a founding member of the Massachusetts Women of Color Coalition (MAWOCC), will grace us with her insights.

  • Panelists:

    • Jamie Wallace, our very own President of the CBTU-Boston and International Union of Painters and Allied Trades DC 35.

    • Ethel Everett, SEIU Local 509 DCF Chapter President and AFRAM Eastern Region secretary.

    • Brian K Johnson, SEIU 1199 Delegate and Chapter Chair at Boston Medical Center.

Panel Discussions:

This year's theme, "Passing the Torch while Building Black Worker Power," will explore:

  • Historical Perspectives on the legacy of Black labor movements.

  • Empowerment Through Education: Strategies to advance Black workers' rights and opportunities.

  • Intersectionality and Solidarity: The interconnectedness of race, gender, and class in advocacy.

  • Mobilizing for Change: Harnessing collective action and community organizing.

This gala is more than just an event; it is a pivotal call to action to support the ongoing efforts to advance equity and justice for Black workers across our region. Proceeds will directly support the vital work being done in our communities.
