CBTU Boston Chapter Inaugural MLK Day Brunch

CBTU Boston Chapter Inaugural MLK Day Brunch

The CBTU Boston Chapter hosted its inaugural MLK Day Brunch, which brought together over 70 trade unionists, including school bus drivers, painters, glaziers, insulators, MBTA workers, teachers, organizers, and more. The event aimed to celebrate the enduring legacy and economic vision of Dr. Martin Luther King.

During the brunch, attendees enjoyed a delightful meal prepared by Caribbean Soul. CBTU Boston members took the opportunity to reflect on the profound significance of Martin Luther King's commitment to labor rights and the ongoing struggles for full employment, workplace dignity, fair pensions, adequate housing, equitable healthcare, quality education, and an end to racism, police brutality, and war.

In addition to the active participation of our members, esteemed guest speakers enriched the occasion. Greater Boston Labor Council Executive Secretary-Treasurer Darlene Lombos, Boston Building Trades Secretary-Treasurer Brian Doherty, IUPAT DC 35 Business Manager Chris Brennan, and Boston City Councilors Julia Mejia and Tania Fernandes Anderson delivered inspiring addresses, emphasizing the importance of continuing Dr. King's work.

We express heartfelt gratitude to our members and community supporters for their dedicated leadership, time, and energy in organizing this powerful event. Special thanks go to our union sponsors: Painters and Allied Trades District Council 35, Team Solidarity - the Voice of United School Bus Union Workers, Boston Carmen's Union Local 589, IUPAT Glaziers Local 1044, Insulators Local 6, Bricklayers & Allied Craftsmen Union Local 3, and 617MediaGroup. This memorable occasion has set the stage for what we hope will become an annual tradition within our CBTU Boston Chapter.
